I need to know if I can use whatsapp on a phone then return to my old phone

This is my problem: I changed my iPhone (phone 1) like 6 months ago, I'm about to travel (using another phone (phone 2) ) I will be using the same chip and I need to know if I can use whatsapp on (phone 2) and then use the same chip again on (phone 1) without loosing all the files that I have on (phone 1) I know it's confusing sorry, but it's really important to know that I won't be loosing all my chats and media on (phone 1)
