Why won't my Sony Receiver recognize my Apple TV 4th Gen?

When I attach my new Apple TV 4th Gen to my Sony receiver's HDMI connection the unit shuts down. When I attach it directly to my Sony TV it works fine. I've tried different HDMI Ports on the receiver and I've tried different HDMI cables. Nothing seems to work.

Turn off home theater controls on your ATV4. Located in Settings--> Remotes and Devices.
