Why won't my iPhone 5 let me accept touch commands?

my iphone5 will not accept touch commands, help

My phone will recognize my fingerprint, but once the home screen appears, the touch screen does not work. I can not slide to unlock, I can not slide to shut the phone off.

Welcome to iMore!

There aren't really any settings to turn off the touch screen so we can eliminate that. You can't slide to turn off but have you tried a reboot? Hold the Home (round) and Power (at top) buttons down at the same time. Hold for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears.

Once it's back up, give it a try.

If that doesn't work you can always try a restore as new but that's kind of a nuclear option
