Small thumbnails? They look plenty big. This is after I long press the +. Then I simply tap the ones I want to share.

Inspired by your post, I’ve just realised that you can swipe up on the smaller, upper horizontal bar, which gives you an almost-full screen, making it more similar to selecting direct from Photos … Still no swipe-to-select consecutive photos though!

I'm not sure what you mean. What upper bar?
Never mind. I see. Yes, you can raise it up. You can also do stickers that way as well.
