saved gifs no longer move, save as stills. whaaaat? Help

when i saved a gif from tumblr it used to move in the library, but no longer does. I have plenty of room on the device storage and also in the cloud. no idea why they stopped moving. any ideas?

In my usage, the gif doesn't move in the Photo gallery. If you send it to someone, it does move though
