Question pair a normal bluetooth keyboard with ipad mini?

I use my ipad mini mainly at home. I'd like to pair a normal size bluetooth keyboard to it for use with iMessage. Is this doable? I thought I'd ask before I go out and buy one.

I don’t see why not. You should be able to find a keyboard that is compatible with your iPad mini. When shopping around make sure you get one that is compatible with yout specific version.

It should work with any standard Bluetooth keyboard.

I have tested with a Dell KB740, and it worked out of the box after the two were paired.
