Ordered Verizon AirPods - not available

On Tuesday, I ordered some AirPods from the Verizon store online and I got an email saying they don't have them available right now and will ship as soon as they get stock. Has anyone else gotten this email or has anyone successfully gotten AirPods from Verizon?

I never saw them available on the Verizon site. Keeps saying out of stock

That seems so strange to me! That if I would have ordered from Best Buy rather than Apple I might would get them sooner.
