iphone backup

where is your iphone backup stored within itunes?
My laptop is going back (foobar'd) so if poss i want to put the config backup onto a usb HDD and then plonk it into the appropriate place when i load a fresh itunes on my soon to be purchased new laptop.

I don't think that there is a way to do that. The backup is a part of iTunes as far as I know.

There is a location. I have heard others mention it and show where, but, I can't recall where that is.

Your music is in MyMusic and your ringtones, apps, and game settings are in MyDocuments/iTunes.

Sync your contacts to Google and then you don't have to worry about it.

I think the OP is talking about the backups he has done through iTunes, not the location of the files to resync them.

If you are looking to move your backups you need to look in the following location:
C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\<long number here>

If you're on Windows XP it is something like:
C:\Documents and Settings\Users\<Username>\....
