I ran into a couple situations with my iPad and h2o. I went and got an iLoc iPad Case for just a couple bucks and put my iPad in it to protect it when near water. Picked it up at ilocstore.com Have even seen it on ebay and amazon.

I have had three friends that went to the Apple Store in Lexington, KY with iphones ruined due to water damage.. All were up front with the Apple people and all three walked out with a brand new iphone 4.
