Uh... yeah. So, how?

I know I'm jumping the gun a little bit here as 3.1 isn't out yet, but forewarned is forearmed.

As I understand it, in order to update a jailbroken iPhone you have to back up all your stuff, un-jailbreak by doing a restore in iTunes, re-jailbreak, then restore your backed up files.

Is that right? Man, I hope not. It's got to be easier than that.

It is, for people who don't jailbreak :)

If you jailbreak, you're pretty much declaring yourself the equivalent of an "expert user" who's willing to put in more effort for more control over the device.

Part of that is having to wait for jailbreaks to arrive for new OS versions (which can be frustrating), and having to go through a slightly more complicated upgrade path.

Seems to me, the easiest way would be to wait for a jailbreak for the version to come out. That way, you just restore the new version's jailbreak backup and that's it. That's how easy it was for my 3.0 update anyway. Others stories may be different.
