I had to call the support line to learn how to set up a mailbox for alias email addresses. In other words, the current Apple knowledge base describes how to set up alias addresses and states one of the benefits is that we can screen or filter emails sent to it, but, as far as I could tell, it does not describe how to do this!

The procedure is 1) select our main iCloud inbox in Mail on the Mac, then
2) set up a new mailbox using the Alias Label (I then drag that mailbox from the very bottom of the sidebar to the toolbar for easier/quicker access), then
3) set up a new Rule in Mail-->Preferences-->Rules: "If all conditions are met..." + "Any recipient--contains--[alias address] + Perform the following actions: Move Message--to mailbox--[Alias Label]

Testing this, I've noticed that some sender accounts work such as 1) sending to my Alias iCloud address from my professional (non-Apple) email account but sending to my Alias iCloud address from my Outlook account went into my Junk folder on my Mac and not the designated Alias folder. Go figure.
