So, I'm new too Mac. I am wondering what the upgrade to Catalina will be like? Is there an option for a clean install or just an in place upgrade?

Thanks.

Mac updates are done via the Mac App store generally, although, sometimes you will get prompted by the system app to install important updates. Yes clean install IS possible, follow the instructions in this blog.....

I do not have a Mac, so I don't know the answer to your question. I did find this article about "How to upgrade to macOS Mohave" on Apple Support's website, and maybe it will help?!?!?! I know it's for Mojave, but it may give you some insight into the process. Hopefully, some other Mac users will come along and give you the information you're looking for.

IF you want to have a hand in the testing of Apple's beta OSs, you can sign up here.....

https://beta.apple.com/sp/betaprogram/

That is the beta program for us regular types, IF you want in even earlier, you can sign up for the developer program (NOT FREE, I THINK it's around 100 dollars), info here.....

https://developer.apple.com/programs/

NOTE: The developer program is NOT for the faint of heart. Things can and do go wrong, and as such only real developers or advanced users should sign up.

No offense, but if you're new to Mac then I wouldn't even consider the beta program. Save yourself a lot of headaches until you've researched it more.

Thanks everyone. Sounds like it's an in-place upgrade. I'll look at the imore article too for how to perform a clean install.

I never intended to enroll in the beta program. This was more about the release in a few weeks. I probably won't even install it then until the first point update is out.

I took his advice as a preemptive sort. Betas can bring on their own headaches.

I just mentioned the beta for those interested. I don’t indulge either. I’m like you I wait for the first update of the new OS, or at least until a few others have tried first and worked out the issues.
