How do I turn off the sound of a text once I've received it?

When I get a text and the ringtone plays, I used to be able to hit the volume button or open the text and the sound would stop, since the update it plays through it's entire length no matter what I do

What device are you having an issue with? I don't see this problem (iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad - all running iOS 8.3).

Have you tried setting a "regular tone" for text messages? Then after you test that way, switch it back to your ringtone and see what happens. Or you could just keep it set on a tone.

Thank You! I didn't even think of that, it was a nice easy fix, now I can turn off the tone while I'm talking on the phone again lol. Thanks again for the help.
