The one in the status bar? That just lets you know your connected to the Internet via the Edge network. You can't remove it unless you're jailbroken.

Call your wireless carrier to see if they're having signal-related issues, especially if you've been enjoying faster cellular service prior to creating this thread. They should be able to troubleshoot the problem from their end. Either that or move to a location where you get a better wireless signal.
