How can I tell if the lcd if broken?

The screen was already cracked. The phone was off but when I try to turn it on it wouldn't show anything. At first it showed a blueish dark screen with some vertical lines when I tried to turn it on and then it was all black and still like that.

I recommend you make a Genius Bar appointment with the nearest Apple Store to have them diagnose the problem for you. If you have Apple Care Plus, now would be a good time to use it.
