I'm a college student who also works full time; needless to say, I'm seldom home before 7 in the afternoon. I would guess a signature would be required by Fed Ex when delivering the phone. Is there any way around this? Maybe leave a signed statement on my door telling them to leave it? I haven't ordered a phone before and I'm kind of in the dark about what to do. The last thing I want is for my $600 investment to be floating around on a Fed Ex truck because I wasn't home to sign for it.

Someone has to sign for it. You ask a nieghbor that is home if they will accept it for you and leave a note on the door for the Fedex driver. They may or may not do this though until at least one attempt and you put that on their official slip they leave. You could also have them hold for you to pick up indicated on the slip they leave.

If they delivered it just pick it up when you get off work or out of class. FedEX usually takes packages back by around 7pm. So you should be able to pick it up. Not a big deal at all.

I get Fedex deliveries all the time. I sign a paper asking them to leave the delivery. Has never failed me. I was not home when my ipad was delivered and when I returned home there it was waiting for me.

Verizon might have a form for that type of thing too. Apple does.

Yeah but Apple stopped that with the 3GS launch. They made it mandatory that someone signs for it. Previously, you could sign a waiver for them to do it, but not anymore.

Once shipping confirmations and tracking numbers are in your possession, call your local FedEx Depot and have them hold the package for you to pick-up and sign for in the event you can't be home for a delivery.

They cannot hold anything unless it's attempted to be delivered at least 1 time.

You can also try contacting Fedex and ask if you can arrange with them for packages to be and the driver sign and you take responsibility for loss if it goes missing.

Fedex can be funny about it though because it depends on the driver. We have even had drivers refuse to deliver on packages we ship out when there is no signature requirement and it can be simply because the driver is worried that it may be stolen if left.

Worth talking to them.

UPS is another matter, I have received packages that should have been signed for and they have just dumped them on the driveway and driven off, with one package there was a driver and a helper and they threw the box out of the moving vehicle without stopping and getting a signature and simply signed it themselves.

Like I said, when the tracking number is available you may be able to make arrangements with Fedex or UPS for it to be left without signature or with a neighbor.

Always talk to them and ask them what to do.

I'm okay, both carriers usually turn out about 7pm and sometimes even later in my area, thankfully I work from home and I will work round the delivery and make sure that I don't go anywhere on the delivery day.

This is where it also helps to know your UPs, FedEx, USPS guy as long as its my normal guy for the company in question, no sig unless the scanner wont let him get around signing, now if its a sub esp the UPS one he'll be a total ****** and make packages that dont need sig's require a sig. Needless to say i give that guy **** every time. Esp when its something i'm shipping to myself and have waved signature and he'll stand here and still argue with me.
