I received an older iPhone from a friend. He thinks it is a 3g. Is there a way to tell what model it is?

Also, if I restore to Factory Settings will that erase all of the phone info, such as IMEI, etc?

Thanks so much in advance.

There should be a model on the back of the phone. Google it and you can see what model it is (or plug it into iTunes).

No that will not erase the imei as that is hard coded in. Just settings, apps, etc.

To know what model it is, you can google search the model number or another way to know, if the writing in the back is all in the shiny chrome writing it's a 3GS. If the apple is shiny chrome and the bottom is regular gray or faded, it's a 3G.
