Do I need an anti virus in my mac pro?

I opened a site that gave me a pop up with a virus message and a sound as a horn. I closed the safari window.

To answer the thread question, I'd say maybe, but it depends on your web browser habits. If you frequently peruse questionable sites then I recommend you install an anti-virus app from a reputable company.

Applecare now with El Capitan the way it now takes care of the operating system and especially memory - They don't recommend using any 3rd party apps to control things like anti virus and apps like Clean My Mac, They recommend DaisyDIsk and that is from talking to Genius Bar person yesterday when I went with a friend to have something taken care of on his Mac, This is what the guy told me.
