Backing up an iPhone XS Max (512) to iTunes problems

Hello, any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I have an iPhone XS Max 512gb and I am trying to back it up to my iTunes (Version 12.9.5.5). My computer keeps giving me an error message that there is not enough space on the computer to back it up......I am using roughly 230GB of my phone space and there is 357GB available on my computer....which is a MacBook Pro Retina.

I don’t use iTunes on a Mac but in Windows I just go in and delete all the old backups to free up space seeing as my old laptop has less storage than my 256 pro Max

Try rebooting both the iPhone and your MacBook Pro. Close any running apps on the MacBook Pro just in case their consuming a good deal of RAM.
