On the main screen where it has pics and names of the phone with quick details it has 4G on the iphone4S. In the description it says

Wireless Technology
GSM/GPRS850/900/1800/1900 MHz
3G - UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA850/900/1900/2100 MHz
BLUETOOTH? technology4.0Wi-Fi Connectivity802.11b/g/n
Wi-Fi (802.11n 2.4GHz only)
4G*HSPA+ with enhanced backhaul

Now I was under the impression HSPA+ was a 3G supercharged and 4G was LTE in the future like Iphone5.

Is this false advertising from at&t? And when LTE comes out will they call it than 5G, lol.

In simplest terms HSPA+ is 3G not 4G so how can at&t call the Iphone4 a 4G phone

Technically, even LTE is not "real" 4G. AT&T and T-Mobile have been marketing HSPA+ as 4G for a while now, and since the 4S supports HSPA+, they're marketing it as a 4G phone.

AT&T calls their HSPA+ network 4G.... Nothing to get excited about, it's a play on words!

Doesn't T-Mobile call HSPA+ 4G?

Anyway iPhone 4S is not HSPA+ either, it is HSDPA.

The other posted was saying maybe because Apple said in the keynote that the download potential is comparable to other 4G devices.

On my Iphone4 on at&t's network. I was able to get 3.55 Mbps download speeds using speedtest app. So in 3 days when I get the Iphone4S on at&t with HSPA+ I should be able to expect what kind of speeds compared to what I'm getting on the Iphone4 on 3G in my city? Double the speed? Just a tad faster?

If the Iphone4S is a 4G phone than shouldn't the Iphone4S have a 4G icon on the status bar along with a 3G icon and a Edge icon. Or will it still say 3G on the status bar. If it still says 3G than thats garbage.

It's not a 4G phone though. AT&T just wants to market it that way. The iPhone 4S gets faster 3G speed on AT&T, but it's not as fast as HSPA+.

Yeah, they do. It's all still a play on words as it's not true 4G...

Err well neither is WiMax or LTE. So let's just drop it. The fact is the 4S has the same possible download speeds on AT&T as many other "4G" devices on other carriers. That's all that really matters. In Canada it's going to make a big difference, as all of our carriers support HSDPA.

And really, after 5mbps you would never notice a difference on a phone. The rendering speed of the browser can not keep up with 20mbps speeds. Not in your wildest dreams.

Same question here. I know AT&T was trying to work something out with apple about incorporating the 4G icon on the status bar while in 4G areas, Does anyone know if the AT&T version is shipped with this or will it be incorporated in a software update?
