I have a 3rd Generation Apple TV connected to a Sony Smart TV. All works well until I Mirror my I Pad or I Phone using Airplay. It only displays in 4:3 and leaves thick black bars either side of the image. This gets even worse if I play a 4:3 video from my I Phone (the image gets double bars down either side like looking at a postage stamp.
Considering all the items (hardware), are the "Apple" family, I cannot believe it only works in 4:3. Bearing in mind that there is not a Smart (networked) TV made that is in 4:3 Why is this happening?
I know the I Phone / I Pad are 4:3 devices but you would think Apple would have the common sense to automatically adjust the aspect ratio for the mirrored display on Apple TV via Airplay.
