I couldn't wait to share with the world some of my new modifications I've been making to my iPhone cases to add a 1/4" 20 Tripod Mount to all of them.

I've already modded my Switcheasy Rebel and my Speck CandyShell. I have a Otterbox Defender and a Switcheasy Colors on the way to also modify. I already have all the parts to add a tripod mount to them and cant wait to share those designs with the world.

With all luck I should be able to do tutorials on all of these cases this weekend, with video/pictures/written instructions.

All of these mods can be done with a dremel and some patience. Some of the parts you can not get locally, I ordered them from McMastercar. I will have a list of part numbers of course and if there is enough feed back, I might sell kits, as a lot of the parts come in bags of 50-100.

All of my modifications have to have to meet 2 primary criteria

* The mod must be as low profile as possible, you have to be able to use this as a daily case.
* The Tripod Mount must not be able to scratch or come into contact with your iPhone to Scratch it.

That is just as good (and way cheaper!) than the accessories on today's TiPB front page. Can't wait for the tutorial - this is what I need to go with my extra iPhone lenses!

Interesting.. I like the use of the goose neck.

I'm wondering if the workings of the iPhone would be damaged by a magnetic field, as it might be easier and useful if instead of the nut-serts you're using, you used a simple metal plate inside the case and then put a rare-earth magnet on the end of the goose neck to attach the iphone.

I'm just waiting on another Switcheasy rebel plate and my new Mic to get here today so i can do a tutorial.

I'm wondering if the workings of the iPhone would be damaged by a magnetic field, as it might be easier and useful if instead of the nut-serts you're using, you used a simple metal plate inside the case and then put a rare-earth magnet on the end of the goose neck to attach the iphone.

You would still have to attach the metal plate somehow. Glue is out of the question, maybe not so much with the Candyshell, but defiantly with the Rebel, it just doesn't stick to that type of Polystyrene Plastic. Plus since the spine of the rebel bends and glue that's put on there will break off when you twist the spine getting it off the case. That's why i went with a Mechanical Connection.

I know there are some very powerfully rare earth magnets, I've had some but i rather trust my iPhone with something screwed in any day. I made this because Scott from Scottevest made a Youtube video looking for something like this, he made a mention of using it while on a mountain bike i think, i think that's why magnets didn't even cross my mind.

Doing some quick research shows some people think magnets messed up their iPhones, but most likely due to the cases using the wrong type of magnet See Link

I guess if you used the right and powerful enough magnet, i don't see why you couldn't do what you suggested for any rig that wouldn't be moving.

Thanks guys,

Yall liking these mods i'm doing will help me get through these How-to vids and write ups.

Ive spent that last day coming up with a way to attach my sennheiser ew 100 bodypack receiver to my iphone for better audio with recording vids.

It wasn't as simply as just transforming the line from the sennheiser to the iphone, but 30 hours later and i'm almost done.

Ill get to the how-tos this week and will have them done at the latest this next Sunday. I'm doing how-tos on 4 different cases with 3 different attaching designs. @ of which you can see above.

Quick Update

A quick Update.

I got the videos shot and I'm working on editing them and getting the writeups done.

Theses videos and instructions will be VERY in depth so it will take me a little bit to put it all together.

In the mean time here are some quick shots of the Switcheasy colors and the Otterbox Defender.
