Slow running macbook

I have an early 2008 blac MacBook. I upgraded my hd to a WD 7200 500gb about 6 months ago and upped to 4 gb of ram. Had 0 issues. Then 2 weeks ago my wife reboots and gets a white screen with the ? On the folder. Fixed that issue and was running fine. Now yesterday I turn it on and the computer seems to be tuning at half speed. I did the fix permissupions, there were a lot of errors. It seemed to work for about 12 hours. This morning it seems I can't run more then one program at a time with out the system slowing down considerably. Any ideas???

I'm on 10.7.1

Have you fixed this yet? You can try booting from the lion disk and run disk utility to see if it helps

nothing helped. my itunes wiped it self on saturday. i called apple eand the gave me 90 days because i bought Lion. So they were totally baffled too. I wiped my system last night and started to re-install snow leopard. then i will upgrade to lion and see what happens. if that fails i will try a straight install of lion from usb, if that fails i am going back to snow leopard.
