MacBook Pro shorted out
last year i installed 16 gb Crucible memory to my late 2012 MacBook, a month later i plugged a passive USB hub into a unused USB port on the Mac, the display blinked out and i momentarily smelled the odor of burning plastic, i disconnected the hub and pressed the power button but the smell got worse so i unplugged every thing opened up the bottom case and found the memory chips distorted and hot. upon further examination i found a really tiny press connector just above to the upper left side of the top edge of the battery that looked ripped off the logic board, my question is could a passive non power USB hub cause this much damage?
