    Just a quickie.
Having recently JB my iPhone4s for the first time, I was wondering what the situation regarding updates from Cydia for apps I have paid for.

In the 'normal' iTunes app store, when you buy an app you get free updates (for now at least anyway!). Also, it's pretty easy to know when an update is available.

Does this apply to apps downloaded from Cydia? Both in respect to 'free' updates and being notified that an update is available.

    Thanks.

Yep, almost all updates are free; very rarely a major revision will be released as a new app (Springtomize 2 foe example) but that happens in the regular App Store too.

To check for updates just open Cydia. You'll get a red badge in the Changes tab if there are any updates, just like in the App Store.

You can also install Curiosa from Cydia. It notifies you if one of your JB apps has an update.
