If I upgrade to OS 5.1

I'm jailbroken and I am wanting to upgrade to 5.1, however I am wondering if I do will I lose my custom icons? I changed them using the non-jailbroken way, it's not a huge deal I am just curious.

yes you will and the ability to jailbreak (assuming you are using an iPhone 4S)

Best bet is to wait until there is a 5.1 jailbreak. There's no need to update anyway in my opinion.

Well if I understand correctly certain software let's you "explore" your backups on a pc... So you can make a backup of your new 5.1, then you can edit the files on your pc then use iTunes to restore the backup you modified... I know this works for plist editing, don't see why it wouldn't work for image editing...
If you're only interested in your custom icons...

I haven't found any reason to upgrade either and lose my current stable jailbreak for.
