Wifi issues

I have noticed that when i am playing Modern Combat 3, periodically my iPhone 4S will revert (for lack of a better word) back to the 3G/4G. It's as if the wifi is dropping or getting cancelled out? In order to remedy or "fix" the issue I find myself having to hit the home button to which the signal will go back to wifi. I'm not sure if this is a bug with the game or it's a phone issue or if it's a router issue. If it helps any I have a 4S playing the game on a Airport Extreme (latest version).

Anyone else having this issue?

I haven't noticed it with any other app, as I'm more than likely not on any other app on my phone for that same period of time as I am on MC3.
