Restore Question

Is there a way to restore my iPhone 4 to factory settings thats not activated on verizons network? Right now my iPhone is my iPod touch and the battery life has been horrible so i was figuring a restore to factory settings a fresh install of iOS5. Does it require that you activate it or can you skip that process?

You can restore it but afterwards it does require an activation.

If you only use it as an iPod Touch why not sell it and actually buy an iPod Touch?
