Sounding Funny To People on The Phone?

i don't know if anyone has experienced this before it doesnt happen often but sometimes when talking on the phone to non iphone users such as blackberry and other devices people say sometimes i sound like a robot or funny. i don't know if its my iphone, them or the connection/signal. usually if they call me right back it fixes it self. any thoughts? thanks!
