My phone screen is locked when I make calls + app problems.

Hi guys
So I recently received an iPhone 3GS from a friend (not entirely sure if it's real or not - how can I find out?), and I discovered when I make calls or receive them nothing on the screen works.

So the only way I can receive calls is by pressing the home key but I can't mute, use the keypad etc.

And the only way I can disconnect is by pressing the off button.

Also, is there some way I can get the default Maps, Weather, Compass and Stocks applications? I have them but even though I've changed the language to English, they operate in Chinese.

Can someone help me with these problems and tell me how to find if my iPhone is real?

So let me get this straight, to answer a call you press the home button? That is definitely not right. I hope you didn't pay a lot for this phone.

What gives you the idea that it may not be a real iPhone? What is the model number on the back of the phone?
