new to iphone & need help

when the phone is in sleep mode and a call comes in how can i dismiss the call as all i seem to be able to do is swipe across and it answers the call? what i want to do is dismiss the call as you can when the phone is active. Can anyone enlighten me ?
Also can i attach a template or footer to my sms messages like you can with emails ???

Press the power button on the top of the phone.

Press the power button one to silence the call; twice to send the call to voice mail (if memory serves me correctly).

I am new to iphone too, let me also know the solution of your problem as I am also facing it. This iphone, I really find it using hard. It is not user friendly.
