My 3G won't turn on

I turned my iphone 3G off this morning and when I tried to turn it back on it tells me it needs to be plugged into my itunes. However, when I do this the itunes says it can't recognize the phone. I can only make emergency calls. What do I do?

Have you tried a simple reset?

Probably not it, but make sure the battery isn't dead by plugging it in for 5 mins and then trying to start it again.
