Problem updating 2.1 on my touch

Tried to update my touch from 2.0.2 to 2.1 but it seem to be getting stuck at the backup portion.

It's always the same even when I tried restarting the itunes and powercycle my touch.
On itunes 8 now.

So as long it don't make pass through this backup stage I don't think my touch can ever be upgraded to 2.1. Anyone knows how to bypass ?

Did you update to iTunes 8? Maybe that's needed?

Yes I did as I mentioned above.

I managed to overcome the problem.
1. Connect Ipod touch to itunes and answer no to upgrade to 2.1 FW.
2. At the application tab untick Sync application and click Apply. This will remove all application from your device which is the culprit that causes the long backup.
3. Removing the apps will take sometime but not as longggggg as the backup.
4.Once all app are removed, do the 2.1 update and it will go through
5.Once completed, sync back your apps.

Guess what ? Now backing up is a breeze.... I guess they really fixed it up at 2.1
Can't wait to upgrade my iphone to this version.....
