iPhone 8+ automatically called me

Last night around 2230, my 8+ rang. Walked over to see who it was, and it was me calling myself. I did not initiate the call.

First time I've ever experienced this (on any mobile platform).

This morning around 0735, I noticed a Carrier Settings update appear. I accepted that.

8+ is running iOS 11.1 on Verizon.

Has anyone experienced anything similar?

If it was a call spammer, which I believe is highly likely, they wouldn't be able to do anything really. They would have to know the original number that the call came from and then contact the service for that number. It's easier to do with spam emails (you just read the headers) than spam callers spoofing numbers.
