How do you only get text messages to only remind you once instead of the default two times

By waiting until iOS 11 is released officially

Settings / Notifications / Messages. At the bottom, there is an entry "repeat alerts". In iOS 10.3.2, there is an option "Never", as shown in the screenshot above. You don't have to wait for iOS 11.

Sure. But OP asked to a repeat alert of once.
Instead of just the initial alert.

If you only want one notification of a message, set it to "never" for repeats. If you want one notification in addition to the first, set to "once".
Settings > Notifications > Messages> scroll down to bottom.

As I read it, op wants only one alert, not two. But, if you're right, once is also one of the options on 10.3.2. (Which is what mine is set to.)

Thanks for the clarification. I read it as once initially and then a second as repeat, but no more.

Guess we have different perceptions.
I wasn’t sure what was on iOS 10 and what’s iOS 11 only.

It's set on "once" by default. That means 2 alerts.
