iPhone 3gs Baseband help?

Hey guys i have an iphone 3gs with what i think is a deadbaseband ... when i load it up to latest iOS5 and in the about screen at the activation page so when i click that little (i) http://www.iphoneheat.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/iphone-activation.jpg < refrence to what im talking about .. it shows me a blank square no numbers at all where it should be showing me one ID and one baseband ... ive tried to flash ipad baseband and had no luck ive tried to jailbreak it no luck ... is there a way to revive it? i know some people say to 'cook' the baseband chip but im unsure of how i would do this.. any help would be nice ... i want to use this as a back up phone coz iphone 3gs is when i first started to love apple! thanks for any help guys.
