Open mail from status bar

Something I love about biteSMS is that I can see my unread texts by tapping the status bar icon. Is there something similar for the mail app?

(that is, tapping the icon will open the mail in the mail app)

i always thought this would be a wonderful tweak but i have yet to see anything like it

for now LockInfo will have to do for me
