iCloud Drive taking up too much space

iCloud Drive is taking over half of my space on my flash drive. I assume all my files are accessible in the cloud so why is it still on my MacBook? How can I free up my drive?

Those files are syncing to all of your devices that are configured with the same iCloud ID. Remember, iCloud/iCloud Drive are primarily focused on synchronization.
