when texting from my ipad it show my email instead of phone number?

I recently purchase a IPad mini and when I'm texting it show my email coming from my email instead of my phone number and the text they don't show in my phone. looks like my phone and Ipad are not connected. what do I need to do?

What version of iOS are the iphone and iPad using? Are both using the same AppleID? Try connecting both to the same WiFi network. You need to be on the same WiFi network for the FaceTime and iMesssage integration to work. Also you will only be able to iMessage other iOS users. You should also be able to take phone calls on your iPad IF it's all working right. FIRST time you connect, you'll get a message and you'll need to authorize the iPad.
