i phone 5 , cant get my outgoing voice message to activate

I have recorded my own voice message but when I call my phone I still get the Voice message will be converted to text automated message How do I turn my own message on?

Most carrier voicemail give you options like the one you are speaking of. When you call your phone and the voicemail comes on just press the Star key to get into the option mode and see if you can turn off the feature
