I just started getting a grey bar in the text space of received messages and cannot type to reply.

I believe my phone is loaded with version 9.0.2. and I just started getting a grey bar in the text space of received messages and I cannot type in order to reply. If I click to start a new message and select the same sender, the same text reappears without the grey bar and I can then reply. I do not have a microphone image to hold down as some have suggested.
