How do I delete reading list when reading the list is empty?

I've deleted all items on readingist but items still pop up showing they're on a reading list

If you've swiped to the left on each item in your reading list on what I assume is your iOS device to delete them, then nothing should appear in your reading list. Try rebooting your device and/or clapping Safari and removing it from the recently used app list.
