On your Whatsapp screen, swipe down when it the "Chats" page. You should now get another option to see you archived chats

There is no such option to be found at the bottom of chat screen. I have an iphone4

First go to Chats, than hold the screen and pull down the screen till the 'Search bar' appears, then pull down again till you see 'Archived Chats'.
