Deleting text messages from iPhone 4s

I use to be able to hold the message down - then more - then identify individual messages to delete and push the delete button at the bottom. Now the delete image has disappeared and is replaced by a picture of a camera. Anyone know how I can correct this. Thanks.

Can you post a screenshot?

It's a bug. Try swiping the messages app out of the app switcher. I can get it to work by pulling down hard on the keyboard. It's there. You just have to work with it.
Here it is. It's not always there though, and I have to delete the messages app from the background apps. That usually works.
