No mail, text alert sound and the ring tone after downloading iOS7

After updating the recent iOS7 update to my iphone 4S the mail, text alert sound and the ring tone stopped working, it now just vibrates.Today I down loaded the latest iOS8 in hope that this may resolve the problem, but it made no difference. I would be pleased to hear whether you are able to offer any advice on how I can cure this problem.

Welcome to iMore! Sometimes updates get settings out of whack. You need to go through all your settings for Notifications and everything else and make sure it's all set how you want them. I do this after each update. Also, you might try a hard reset. Hold the top power/sleep button and the home button at the same time until the Apple logo appears, then release.
