How do I register iPhone in iMessages

I wanted to send a text to my husband on iPad it said his phone was not registered. I can send it on my iPhone no problem

If you can send him a text message with your phone, then the issue is with your iPad. Can you send anyone else an iMessage with your iPad? Check Settings>Messages>Send and Receive. Make sure you have an email address checked to send from. Also, ask your husband to include that email address in your contact card in his contacts. Let us know if you get it working or not.
