iPod not updating to ios8

Last week I set my iPad Mini and my iPod 5th generation to update to ios8 at the same time. The iPad, which is older and has less room, updated just fine. The iPod looked at first like it had updated okay, but the iPad finished with some questions for me, and the iPod didn't. It turned out that it's still on 7.1.2. I've tried it a few times again, and it finally aborts saying there was an error downloading. What gives?

Did the download start the first time? If you haven't already, give the iPod a hard reboot (hold down power + home button at the same time until you see the Apple logo) and see if that fixes the issue. I get the feeling your download started and was aborted for some reason and there is some cache in there that needs to be cleared with a reboot.
