Why can't I check to see if a person has read my text messages?

i used to be able to slide over my text message and tell if my message was read if that person also had an iPhone, why does it not do that anymore? thank you

It's probably because the person doesn't have "send read receipt" turned on. So then you'll only see that the message was delivered but not read

In regard to iMessages, the recipient must have the "Send Read Receipt" option enabled.
