why i cannot see online/offline modes in hangouts on ipad?

i downloaded a Hangouts to my ipad and everything is working well except of showing the status. nor me or my chat friends cannot see me online as well as i cannot see their status.i've checked all settings on ipad and cudnt find how to fix it.
