Will a VPN app give me better performance on my iPhone 6?

Yesterday I was reading on my PC about a free app called Disconnect.
It was offering ios users this app for free. ($49.00 yr.) normally. Offer expires in one week.
I understand what a virtual private network does.
The article went on to say it will boost performance on my cell phone.
Has anyone used this app or something similar and if so did it help with performance?
Also, would anyone know if this would mess with my cell phone contract? I use Sprint.

Update, I tried the Disconnect VPN app and during this time I had decided to start using my fingerprint scanner again. I had not been using it for quite awhile.
I tried everything short of buying a new screen protector.
I also noticed my iPhone was operating kind of sluggish.
I uninstalled the VPN app and the phone started acting like it did when I first bought it. Fast and dependable.
I tried the fingerprint sensor again and it read my fingerprint on first try.
I was having no luck with the fingerprint sensor long before I'd installed the VPN app but thought it was funny that all of a sudden it is working.
I am happy about the way things turned out!
